Arlene & Herb Zimmer

We have always enjoyed the performing arts.  For many years, we would leave San Pedro for West or Downtown Los Angeles to attend plays and musicals.  We had season tickets to the Hollywood Bowl.  In recent years, we have been delighted to be able to enjoy the remarkable musical and theatrical performances available right here in our hometown.

Between the magnificent natural environment and a delightful diversity of creative arts, it’s clear that San Pedro has much to offer.  And, to us, Shakespeare by the Sea is a perfect marriage of the two.  An evening of dynamic theatre beside the breath-taking venue at Point Fermin Park, along with the tasty and fun picnic basket supper is a night hard to match.

Shakespeare played a part in how Arlene learned to use language and become a creative thinker.  It was in her 10th grade English class at Los Angeles High School where the teacher, Miss Edwards, inspired her students to dive in and take pleasure in Shakespearean language. From there Arlene was encouraged to visualize the actions and motivations of the colorful characters.

Now, our Shakespeare by the Sea evenings bring all the rich language and vibrant characters to life.  The quality of the productions and performances are notably artistic and entertaining, no matter the selected play.

We take great pleasure in Shakespeare by the Sea performances and know that so many others do as well.  We love to see families, especially those with young children attending the shows.  It is gratifying to see the youngsters understanding and enjoying the unfolding story - and all without one word having to appear on their phone or computer screen!

Thanks to all whose talent and hard work make these evenings so very special.  We’re grateful to them and for them.
