Ken & Jane Krick
Ken and Jane Krick witnessed the origination of Shakespeare by the Sea. Ten years ago, they received a phone call from their daughter, Founding Artistic Producer Lisa Coffi. "I found a beautiful park with a band shell. I am in love with the venue and want to put on Shakespeare's plays there." Before they knew it the first play was produced in 1998, which was The Comedy of Errors. They remember when Lisa, Stephanie Courtney, and Keith Gotowicki first began to rattle the bushes to make it happen, and felt certain that they would succeed. It has been a constant struggle, but they are pleased that the productions have improved each year along with attendance and support of sponsors.
Since the beginning they have been coming from Sacramento to see the plays and brought family and friends to partake in the summer evenings. Everyone that they have brought has had a change of heart about Shakespeare after they have watched the shows.
Ken and Jane have loved watching live Shakespeare since watching Lisa perform in Sacramento, and are true believers that once you see it live you will want to see more. Jane’s favorite performance over the years was Mark Joseph in the 2006 production of Hamlet, and felt the whole production of the show was amazing. Ken is a lover of the comedies, and his favorite was the Two Gentlemen of Verona, or as he referred to it "the one with the dog." Since 2001, he has been purchasing the SBTS t shirts and has had the actors autograph them after their performance. He’s built quite a collection.
With the increase in supporters, they feel that each year has seen an overall improvement in the sets, costumes, and sound. The shows are very professional and just keep getting better and they believe that Shakespeare by the Sea is doing a bang up job. Being season subscribers to at least three theatres in the Sacramento area, they definitely have a lot to compare it to.
They are very proud to support something that brings people together, and most of all are very proud that their daughter continues to strive for excellence to maintain her high standards.
